False Passports At Poole

4 people have been detained in 2 days at Poole port for attempting to enter the UK using false passports.

A man and a woman arriving off of the ferry from Cherbourg presented Finnish passports, but on inspection the passports were found to be false.

Officers checking their baggage found a genuine Albanian passport and a genuine Turkish passport.

Both were arrested and handed over to Dorset police.

The following day, again on the ferry from Cherbourg, two men were detained after presenting false Polish passports which would have enabled them to enter the UK without needing a visa.

Both passports were found to be false, and the men were eventually identified as Ukranian nationals.

They were immediately removed from the country and sent back to France, where authorities have indicated that the pair will be prosecuted for using false documents.

"These cases show the type of offences our officers have to deal with at the UK's border. People go to great lengths to acquire convincing documents indicating they are a different person or nationality" said Carole Upsall, director of UKBA South region.
