Seven people have been arrested in Birmingham as part of a major anti terrorism operation.

Six men aged between 25 and 32 have been detained on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism within the UK, and a 22 year old woman is being held on suspicion of failing to disclose information relating to a terrorist act.

It is understood that arrests have taken place in the Sparkbrook, Moseley, Sparkhill, Balsall Heath, and Ward End areas of the city.

A number of properties of properties in the city are currently being searched by specialist police teams.

"I believe it was necessary to take action at this time in order to ensure public safety" said Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale of the West Midlands Counter Terrorist Unit.

Not many news sources are saying it, most have already guessed it, but for once we'll let the BBC do the talking.

"It is understood the investigation, which has involved security service MI5, relates to suspected Islamist extremism."

Wow, we are surprised, we never expected that, who would have thought it?!.

More details are expected shortly, but meantime let's indulge in a little speculation, the following are educated guesses from this author only.

The BBC is right, it's more terrorism courtesy of the Religion of Peace.

We'll be unable to deport any of them because it will violate their human rights - or because we moronically gave them citizenship - and they'll all be out on the streets again in no time at all, probably after an extremely high profile and high cost trial.

Oh, and some politicians and high ranking police, quite likely many of both, will condemn "extremism in all its forms" and point out that these are "but a small minority".

And, some people in high places will pontificate about the need for us to encourage integration and stop radicalisation, whilst telling us that most Muslims oppose terrorism.

Anyone want to bet a pint against my offer to pay for you to drink the bar dry on that set of 'guesses' being accurate?
