Excellent news from the World Health Organisation (WHO) - the number of cases of tuberculosis in the world has fallen.
It's a significant milestone in the fight against the disease apparently, though it does seem that cases of multi drug resistant TB are on the increase.
We'll raise a toast to that, it is a horrible disease.
However, despite falling across the world as a whole, it is worth noting that Britain bucks the trend.
From all but eradicated a few decades ago, Britain has shown ever increasing rates of tuberculosis.
Cases in London have increased over 50% in a decade (1999-2009).
"There is a particularly heavy burden of disease among people who were not born in the UK – this group accounts for 84% of TB notifications in London and predominantly feature in people of Indian or black African ethnicity" says a report from the London TB Commissioning Board.
London has been dubbed the TB capital of Europe.
Britain as a whole has seen TB cases rise from 8,600 in 2008, to 9,040 in 2009, and no signs of that trend reversing.
Seems there's good news for the world on TB, but no such good news for Britain, labouring under the burden of another imported epidemic.
Whilst cases decline across the world of as a whole, as other nations move towards good health, Britain continues it's retrogression towards third world status.
Seems the whole planet is getting healed, usually at our expense, whilst Britain - and indeed Western Europe as a whole - gets sicker and sicker.
