When it comes to our happiness then David Cameron just won't give up. No, not trying to make us happy, rather devising ways to measure how happy we are.

Whereas Dave could just arm himself with a tenner - oops, better make that thirty or forty quid, seems the price of everything is going up - and pop into a pub or two to ask people, instead the latest crackpot scheme seems to be getting people to keep a happiness diary.

People will be encouraged to record what they eat, when and for how long they sleep, how much television they watch, and just about every detail of their lives.

The scheme aims to get 14,000 people to fill in time diaries, and for 4,000 of those to say what activities made them happy or unhappy.

Err, filling out this stupid diary every day didn't do a lot for my happiness Dave.

Nor, for that matter, does the thought of having big brother snoop at every single thing I do, or of handing over all that personal information to the state.

The barmy scheme is expected to cost £1.5million, and there could well be repeat surveys whenever it is decided that the nations happiness need measuring.

That's on top of the £2million of our money already spent on a previous survey to identify the things which made people happy.

Said survey revealed such unexpected shocks as friends, family, health, and job satisfaction, were important to people. Who would have thought it?

A great use of our money at a time of cutbacks Dave, are you sure that hoody you were hugging didn't manage to slip something in your coffee?

Instead of clowning around with gimmicks, do something that will fix the mess Britain is in - that would make us happy.

Now, where'd I put that happiness diary, I need to write down the wonderful dream I had where Lib/Lab/Con all got trounced at the polls, the three stooges, aka Nick, Ed, n Dave, all quit politics in shame, and we got a decent government that put Britain and the British people at the top of the agenda.

That sure made me happy, although sad too when I woke up and it was just a dream. Still, one day, looking forward to it will help the happiness factor no end :)
