UK Borders Agency (UKBA) Staff, supported by Devon and Cornwall Police, have carried out a series of raids in the Torbay area.
The Balti Garden on Abbey Road, Torquay, was first on the list, where a Bangladeshi waiter was found working in breach of his visitors visa.
Next stop was Paignton, where an address on Church Street turned up a Chinese man who had entered the UK illegally.
Finally, again Paignton, this time Torquay Road, where another Chinese man who had stayed in the UK illegally after his asylum claim had been turned down was discovered.
The man detained in Church Street has been released on immigration bail whilst an outstanding claim is considered.
The other two men remain in detention and arrangements are being made to remove them from the country.
"Our officers are carrying out regular raids targeting immigration offenders in Torbay and more are planned" said Kenny Chapman, head of UKBA South West immigration team.
Sadly, we already know that UKBA catch only a small percentage of those here/working illegally, of whom only around 20% are ever deported according to figures released by Parliament back in February of this year.
What with UKBA also facing huge budget cutbacks, illegal immigration and illegal workers, already at incredibly high levels, are likely to rise.
With many areas of the South West being magnets for tourists, and much seasonal work available, it's a prime region for illegal workers to exploit.
