With warnings of cold temperatures fast approaching Britain, experts have warned of a potential power shortage in which the UK's national reserves of electricity may be "touch and go"
Reserves could fall below the 'safe' surplus of 20%, possibly as low as 16%.
Perhaps there may be a link between possible shortages of electricity and to Britains rising population?
After all, more people does equal more demand, that's pretty much an inevitability since all of them will want to keep warm in winter.
Leaving that aside though, the rising costs in every essential - be it food or power - is going to leave many people with a shortage this year whether or not there is actually a shortage in supply/reserves.
They're simply not going to be able to afford to pay for it!
They'll be rationing their food intake and power usage either way, they'll have no choice in the matter. For them, the lights will go off, the fires will go out, or their bellies will go empty - they'll be left with no choice but to choose whether to heat or eat.
A long, cold winter, will see something which should shame so called modern Britain - our elderly, our poor, left to shiver and starve.
How many will die of the cold weather this year?
"Excess Winter Mortality", as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) call it in bureaucrat speak, showed an estimated 25,400 extra deaths during the last winter.
Will a bitter winter, with grinding poverty a reality for more and more people, see that already unacceptable figure rise further in 2011?
Can anyone give one reason why such a pitiful state of affairs should exist at all in so called modern Britain, a Britain where we can spend billions protecting the people of the entire world and yet where our own most vulnerable are left to go hungry and freeze?
Something just isn't right there, it isn't right at all.
