Pensioners, get out of your home, make room for the younger generation. You may have worked hard to buy it, you may have lived there all your life, but get out now, you're causing profound social consequences!

That appears to be the conclusion of a report by the International Foundation, trotted out and given pride of place on Radio 4's Today program.

Apparently 51.5% of over 65's live in homes with additional bedrooms which they do not need. Under occupied as the chosen jargon goes.

Quick, give them tax breaks to sell up and move out, we can have an asylum seeker family with 5 kids in there by breakfast time.

What about MP's with their couple of oversized homes apiece, subsidized by the taxpayer via expenses. Will they lead by example?

Of course, the report does make clear that it is not suggesting turfing old people out, but what does it really come down to in terrible economic times when we're talking about offering financial incentives to move to a smaller property?

How long before we shift from offering incentives, to imposing financial penalties for those who won't downsize?

It may sound a little far fetched, but with Britains ever increasing population coupled with stagnant construction of new homes, it could well reach that stage.

People may say it will never happen, but watch this space. Who'd believe pensioners could be left to freeze to death, or be lying in their own filth in hospital beds, in modern Britain?

We're going to be facing desperate times and hard decisions if population expansion continues. Shunting a pensioner away into a one bedroom box flat, unthinkable as it is now and there's not a politician who would admit it would ever be contemplated, may well become the decision the authorities take tomorrow.

The artificially created population explosion will mean that, for officialdom, the unthinkable may well become thinkable. The mess they have created, and refused to tackle, may well leave them little choice.

Who honestly believes a pensioner, who has paid their taxes and lived their 'productive years', is going to feature as a higher priority with officialdom than those supposedly economically beneficial immigrants who have decades of voting left?

We can deal with the population increase now, or we can face times when the unthinkable may well be forced on Britain. We already see signs we're moving in that direction.

Reports may stigmatise the elderly for under occupying homes, but yet again that ignores the real problem - which is that the huge demand for new homes and living space begins at our borders.

Why should our elderly downsize in order to accommodate the immigration - and immigrant cradle - invasion?

As Britain slides ever more towards run down, third world status, a report from the Care Quality Commission has uncovered horrifying details of our elderly neglected in one fifth of our hospitals.

* Inspectors saw frail patients rattling their bedrails or banging on water jugs to try to attract the attention of staff

* Care so poor in 20 hospitals that patients denied 'the basics in life' - eating drinking and going to the toilet

* Inspection boss: 'some examples truly appalling and truly shocking'

* Medical staff 'putting paperwork over people'

* Nurses ignore orders to give drips to dehydrated patient

That's the bullet points from the Mail story - read the full story here in the Daily Mail

That such conditions can exist in twenty first century Britain is abhorrent, any sane Brit would be disgusted and ashamed at the depths to which our nation is declining.

Such things existing in our nation disgrace us all, the people of Britain deserve far better.

There cannot be a clearer sign that the politicians, those elected to represent us, have failed us utterly.

We must change this, all that is decent and humane demands that we do.

With warnings of cold temperatures fast approaching Britain, experts have warned of a potential power shortage in which the UK's national reserves of electricity may be "touch and go"

Reserves could fall below the 'safe' surplus of 20%, possibly as low as 16%.

Perhaps there may be a link between possible shortages of electricity and to Britains rising population?

After all, more people does equal more demand, that's pretty much an inevitability since all of them will want to keep warm in winter.

Leaving that aside though, the rising costs in every essential - be it food or power - is going to leave many people with a shortage this year whether or not there is actually a shortage in supply/reserves.

They're simply not going to be able to afford to pay for it!

They'll be rationing their food intake and power usage either way, they'll have no choice in the matter. For them, the lights will go off, the fires will go out, or their bellies will go empty - they'll be left with no choice but to choose whether to heat or eat.

A long, cold winter, will see something which should shame so called modern Britain - our elderly, our poor, left to shiver and starve.

How many will die of the cold weather this year?

"Excess Winter Mortality", as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) call it in bureaucrat speak, showed an estimated 25,400 extra deaths during the last winter.

Will a bitter winter, with grinding poverty a reality for more and more people, see that already unacceptable figure rise further in 2011?

Can anyone give one reason why such a pitiful state of affairs should exist at all in so called modern Britain, a Britain where we can spend billions protecting the people of the entire world and yet where our own most vulnerable are left to go hungry and freeze?

Something just isn't right there, it isn't right at all.

Another day, another care home scandal - this time at the St Theresa's Care Centre in Callington, Cornwall, where inspectors found that residents didn't have sufficient food or water, and only 3 of 19 people monitored had received a bath in the previous month.

Not all that long ago we saw the story of the Elmer Sands Nursing Home in Bognor Regis, where patients were left in filthy conditions and lying in their own waste.

Or the Penlee Nursing Home in Weston Super Mare where 75 year old stroke victim Colin Lewis was left to suffer for over a week, and subsequently die, because nursing staff covered up the accident.

We could go on and on, we could point out that in 2 out of 3 of those cases foreign workers were involved in the mistreatment (and that we don't yet know for St Theresas Care Centre), but we won't.

Britain really has become an atrocious place to become old, a nation where we'll shunt you aside like some grubby little secret to eke out your final days in squalor and neglect.

Yes, of course there are many good care homes, but the fact remains that cases such as those above are far too common, and that it is simply disgusting such conditions can exist in so called modern and caring Britain.

Whether it be for want of bigger profits, or for the simple fact that society doesn't really seem to give a damn, or that the people who are supposed to be checking these care homes lack the staffing or the will, doesn't matter. It is simply unacceptable.

Being old in Britain appears to have become something of a crime and a stigma, with the elderly shoved away out of sight and mind.

As well as this it seems rather a lottery as to whether or not you will end your days in conditions not fit for a human being.

Britain supposedly prides itself on its humanity and compassion, we spend £billions every year on improving the lives of people in foreign countries, and yet our eyes are seemingly elsewhere when it comes to our own elderly.

Yet, in case after case after case we fail our own elderly people.

Just a couple of incidents such as these are a disgrace, but the amount occurring in modern Britain is something that shames us a nation.

Not one pensioner should be left to end their days in humiliating conditions like this, but yet again our politicians are looking away as the scandalous catalogue of abuse and neglect goes on.

Our elderly deserve far better, yet they are too often forgotten and ignored, pushed from public view and low down on the list of concerns for our so called caring society.
