Gloucester based Imam Ebrahim Yusuf Kazi, 67 years old, has been found guilty of a number of sexual offences against young girls who were under the age of 13.
The offences took place at Swindon's Broad Street Mosque, and were carried out between 1979 and 1986.
Kazi carried out assaults on 3 girls over this period, and was subsequently convicted by jury of 5 indecent assaults on 3 girls who were aged under 13.
His crimes came to light after one of his victims contacted Wiltshire police.
Sentencing will take place at Swindon Crown Court on November 2nd.
"The offences took place in the 1980s when Kazi was the Imam at the Broad Street Mosque in Swindon. As an Imam, Kazi was in a position of responsibility and trust, a position which he abused for his own gratification" said investigating officer Dawn Simmonds.
"Not only did he subject these children to these despicable acts but he has shown no remorse for his actions, having now also put them through the ordeal of a trial".

A Somerset man who used social networking site Facebook to groom teenage boys, tricking some into sending him naked pictures of themselves and later sexually molesting two of his victims, is to be allowed to continue using Facebook - after a judge ruled that banning him would be "excessive".
19 year old Callum Dower, of Queen Camel near Yeovil, used Facebook to contact boys as young as 14 and make homosexual advances at them.
He would urge them to send him pictures of themselves, often via mobile phone, and in some instances would pose as a girl in order to trick his victims into sending lewd photos.
His attentions did not stop with photographs, he subsequently molested one boy in a supermarket toilet, and another in his car.
Appearing at Taunton Crown Court for sentencing, Dower had previously admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child, five charges of causing or inciting a child to take part in pornography, and six charges of making an indecent image of a child.
Judge Graham Hume Jones sentenced Dower to a 3 year community order, banned him from working with children, and ordered him to be electronically tagged and to obey an overnight curfew for 3 months. He must also sign the sex offenders register for 5 years.
However, Judge Jones seemingly accepted defence pleas that banning Dower from using Facebook would excessive.
Apparently it is taken for granted by people of his age, and a ban on his using such sites would be "particularly excessive" according to Dowers' barrister.
Does that make any sense? He uses Facebook to find and groom his victims, he's convicted, and yet banning him from social networking sites would be "excessive" because he needs it to socialise.
Really makes you feel confident that perverts who prowl social networking sites will be stopped once caught, and children will be protected, doesn't it?

43 year old Shidul Islam has appeared in court in Belfast accused with attempting to abduct a child.
Bangladeshi national Islam spoke through an interpreter when he appeared at Belfast Magistrates, and confirmed that he understood the charge against him.
The charges relate to an incident which took place on 9th August near Islams home on Gotha Street, Belfast, and accuse him of trying to abduct at least one child from nearby.
Islam did not seek bail, and was remanded in custody to appear in court again next week.
Whether it be Ireland or England, Scotland or Wales, we in the UK are reaping the benefits of diversity aplenty, our courts clogged with those needing interpreters, our prisons full of foreign nationals.
Be it grooming gangs or gunmen, child abductors or fraudsters, every day brings us more news of the benefits which we enjoy as a result of the multicultural society which has been inflicted upon us.
Doesn't it just make you feel so enriched?
Aren't you sure all these criminal enrichers would thank you for it - through an interpreter you're paying for of course.

Despite having been convicted of assaulting a woman and a child, offences for which he was jailed, it seems that Burry has managed to string out his stay in this country for more than a decade.
He was first ordered deported in 1998, but he instantly began with tortuous string of appeals - all, of course, paid for by us.
In 2004 the deportation order was upheld, in 2006 he was finally taken into custody. And, he's still here, despite losing another appeal last year - and, get this as a reason to avoid deportation....Burry argued deportation would breach his human rights because paedophiles are stigmatised in Jamaica!
Because he intends to appeal to the UK Supreme Court once again, you've guessed it, we can't deport him while that is ongoing. Although, as of yet, it appears that no papers have been lodged with the court on his behalf.
So far it is estimated that his string of appeals have cost the taxpayer in excess of £400,000.
Don't forget that he is still classed as an asylum seeker as well, so he qualifies for numerous state handouts. Want to bet just whose pocket he is living from?
"Our priority is to protect the public and we strongly believe that foreign law breakers should be removed from the UK" said a spokesman for the UK Borders Agency.
Well, do it then. The UK is a laughing stock, funding dozens of appeals at taxpayer expense, allowing any deportation process to be delayed for decades, and then half the time finding out we can't deport them now because they have been here too long.
It's the UK taxpayer who needs asylum from the armies of people coming here and exploiting us, not to mention the British people needing asylum from the whole insane system which hands every trump card to those who would milk us for every penny they can get.
Asylum is a very apt word, and the lunatics are definitely in charge of this asylum called Britain.

Living above the Family Guy kebab shop in Whitefield, where he worked, Narouzzad would target young girls who came to the shop, offering them money or food in exchange for sexual acts.
Some of his victims were as young as 12 years old and, depending on what sexual acts they would perform, he would pay them as little as £5.
The abuse continued for at least a year, and only came to light when one of his victims broke down and told their family - by which time Narouzzad had built up a network of girls aged 12-15 whom he was abusing.
Police in Greater Manchester interviewed 37 girls during the course of the investigation into Narouzzad's depraved and perverted activities.
He arrived in the UK in 2000, claiming that he was fleeing from persecution in Iran, and was granted indefinite leave to remain here in 2010.
"These children should have been enjoying their lives. Instead, each of them has their own nightmare to bear" said Judge Maureen Ruddy. Indeed, yet more young lives shattered by a depraved enricher.
Narouzzads miserably small sentence - and don't expect him to be kicked out of Britain when he's released - comes hot on the heels of the recent CEOP report which revealed the staggering propensity for 'Asian' men to abuse and sexually exploit teenage, and in some cases pre-teen, girls of whom the majority are white.
All child abuse is wrong, and we are seeing day on day evidence that enrichers who make up less than 4% or 5% of the population are actually committing at least 26% of child grooming offences. That's just the cases we know the ethnicity for, a staggering 32% of offenders are classed as 'unknown'.
Of course, nobody in government dare go that step further and tell us the religion of the majority of these offenders - the word Islam must not be mentioned, that would not be good for 'community cohesion' and wouldn't be 'sensitive' enough.
If you think your kids come first then open your eyes, and ask how we got here. It wasn't by those in authority putting protecting your children at the top of the priority list that's for sure.
In every town and city in Britain there are other Narouzzads, and more of our children falling victim to imported perverts. Our kids are the ones who are paying the price, and they will continue to do so until we wake up and demand an end to the failed multiculturalism which has ruined so many childrens futures.
