A Somerset man who used social networking site Facebook to groom teenage boys, tricking some into sending him naked pictures of themselves and later sexually molesting two of his victims, is to be allowed to continue using Facebook - after a judge ruled that banning him would be "excessive".

19 year old Callum Dower, of Queen Camel near Yeovil, used Facebook to contact boys as young as 14 and make homosexual advances at them.

He would urge them to send him pictures of themselves, often via mobile phone, and in some instances would pose as a girl in order to trick his victims into sending lewd photos.

His attentions did not stop with photographs, he subsequently molested one boy in a supermarket toilet, and another in his car.

Appearing at Taunton Crown Court for sentencing, Dower had previously admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child, five charges of causing or inciting a child to take part in pornography, and six charges of making an indecent image of a child.

Judge Graham Hume Jones sentenced Dower to a 3 year community order, banned him from working with children, and ordered him to be electronically tagged and to obey an overnight curfew for 3 months. He must also sign the sex offenders register for 5 years.

However, Judge Jones seemingly accepted defence pleas that banning Dower from using Facebook would excessive.

Apparently it is taken for granted by people of his age, and a ban on his using such sites would be "particularly excessive" according to Dowers' barrister.

Does that make any sense? He uses Facebook to find and groom his victims, he's convicted, and yet banning him from social networking sites would be "excessive" because he needs it to socialise.

Really makes you feel confident that perverts who prowl social networking sites will be stopped once caught, and children will be protected, doesn't it?

Former Conservative councillor Andrew Lamont has appeared in court charged with mutliple offences including making indecent images of children and possessing pornographic images of animals.

52 year old Lamont, formerly councillor for the Norland ward in Kensington and Chelsea, resigned from the council on August 30 after a long period of unpaid leave of absence.

The charges against him are : sixteen counts of making indecent photographs of children, one of possessing an indecent photograph of a child, three charges of possessing pornographic images of animals, and two counts of possessing pornographic images depicting an act likely to cause serious injuries.

During his brief appearance at West London Magistrates Court he spoke only to confirm his name and address.

Partially sighted Lamont took a white stick to his court appearance, perhaps hoping for sympathy since - if the charges against him are proven - it appears his eyesight was good enough to leer at disgusting photographs.

He will return to court on October 13, where he will be committed to crown court after a district judge declined jurisdiction.

Mr Lamont was also a trustee of the Migrant and Refugees Communities forum, as well as a school governor.

It's not the first time that Conservative councillors in the Kensington have wound up resigning over images that involve children.

Former Kensington and Chelsea mayor Councillor Barry Phelps, along with Councillor Mark Daley, both then Conservative, resigned in 2010 after emails between the two featuring images of young boys with sexually suggestive captions emerged.

In the instance of Phelps and Daley no police charges were brought, and criminality is not implied.

*Hat tip to Runic for the initial story, thank you, it is much appreciated.

A caretaker from Uffculme has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for a catalogue of sexual offences, including 15 specimen charges of rape.

David Brown, 62, who worked as a caretaker in the town hall at Cullompton, is said to have raped one victim at least 400 times. Yes, 400, that isn't a typing error.

Exeter Crown Court was told that he used one victim as a "sexual plaything" as he raped her over a six year period.

Other offences included indecent assault.

Among his victims were girls as young as 9 years old.

He had denied all the charges against him, but was sentenced to a total of 18 years in jail, and told that he would serve at least 12 years.

Now, 365 days in a year, 12 years inside - and 400 rapes. That's just under 11 days in prison per rape. Even if we count only the 15 specimen charges he was convicted of, that's just 292 days per rape.

What's the lesson here? If you're going to be a rapist then do it as many times as you can before you get caught?

So much for being tough on crime. Our justice system is a pathetic joke, betraying the victims at every turn and letting the perpetrators off lightly.

Perverts abound and are often back on our streets after serving derisory sentences for a catalogue of offences.

Their victims will carry those scars for life, and - in many cases - their future victims were counting on society to protect them.

Society fails them all, too many rapists and paedophiles ruin young lives and steal innocence, and get away with insultingly short sentences compared to the frequency and magnitude of their crimes.

As Britains human rights insanity continues, today we learn that restrictions on padeophiles using the internet and having contact with children are to be relaxed - because, no surprise, it breaches their human rights.

A ruling in the Court of Appeal has over-ruled powers which allowed convicted paedophiles to be totally banned from accessing the internet.

Not only this, imposing a blanket ban on contact with children breaches the paedophiles right to a family life by preventing them having contact with their own children.

Among those now having restrictions relaxed are one Steven Smith, caught with child pornography, and with a previous conviction for raping a young boy.

Just the sort of person we really want online, possibly talking to our kids, then.

That's right, forget protecting the children, they get the right to carry the scars for the rest of their lives, the rights of perverts are more important.

Human rights rulings create a perverts charter, handing all the rights to those from whom society, and our children, need protecting.

We live in an insane society where innocence is a positive bar to having rights, only the guilty are seemingly accorded every right that they think should be theirs.

Become a rapist and get rights! Something is truly rotten in our society when that is apparently an accurate statement.

Any society can be judged by how it protects the innocent and punishes the guilty - somewhere along the line we have lost our moral compass on both in a major way, justice has become a topsy turvy Alice in Wonderland world.

For the sake of the children we need to re-establish sanity, take back the rights and ensure that they are afforded to those who truly deserve rights.

Many might argue that perverts gave up their claim to rights the moment that they touched a child, or the instant they started to look at disgusting images of kids, and there are few people who would disagree.

Well, all of us probably agree on that other than the judges, politicians, and the bleeding hearts who have allowed Britain to become a nation where a perverts charter has become enshrined in law, and sadly they are the ones making the decisions.

Former Liberal Democrat Councillor Denis Bennett, who had served on St Austell Town Council, has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register after being found guilty of indecently assaulting a teenager.

During the assault, which took place on December 7 of last year, married father Bennett touched the 18 year old male victim inappropriately, and made remarks about "liking little boys" and told his victim that he wanted to take him "outside and bend you over the nearest object".

The victim had also related to the court how Mr Bennett had offered to perform a sex act on him, which he declined, and that Bennett later texted him expressing concern that he had gone too far.

Despite denying the allegations Bennett was convicted by jury in July, and sentencing at Truro Crown Court saw him placed on a three year sex offender rehabilitation program, ordered to pay £1,400 in court costs, and ordered to sign the sex offender register for three years.

Bennetts defence had argued that the incident had been a jokey act which had got out of hand, and likened him to Carry On comedian Kenneth Williams.

Bennett has resigned as a councillor, and in a statement prior to sentencing, had said that "There is not a day goes by when I do not deeply regret my actions. I am terribly sorry for the hurt and distress I caused to the other man involved, to his family and to my own".
