Prominent Conservative, and friend of David Cameron, Christopher Shale has been found dead in a VIP lavatory at the Glastonbury festival.

Shale, 56, was chairman of the West Oxfordshire Conservative Association, and director of the Centre for Policy Studies.

Various sources are saying that Mr Shale died from a heart attack, although initial reports, seemingly confirmed at the time by festival organiser Michael Evis, suggested that it may have been suicide.

At a press conference Michael Evis said that "I'm told it was a suicide situation in the early hours of the morning...It is a personal situation, but it looks like suicide"

Initial reports from those present on the site of Glastonbury festival appeared to indicate that the area where Mr Shales body was found was being treated as a crime scene.

Shale's death came just as a leaked Conservative strategy document, during which he made a scathing attack on the current Conservative party, saying that "Over the years we have come across as graceless, voracious, crass, always on the take" and, of Tory party membership, there was "No reason to join. Lots of reasons not to"

Speaking of membership in the leaked paper, he said that many people wouldn't join the Conservatives because they "think we'll beg and steal from them. And they're right"

Shortly before his death Mr Shale was seemingly contacted by David Camerons press secretary concerning the stories in the papers, and then spoke to David Camerons election agent, Barry Norton, who repeated the a warning not to talk to journalists about the story.

Another Tory party official, so far not named in the press, advised Shale to contact Conservative central office, but it is believed Mr Shale never contacted them.

According to Barry Norton, Shale was enjoying the festival, relaxed, and was not particularly worried about events. Norton also added that there was a history of heart problems in Mr Shales family.

Avon and Somerset Police are not treating the death as suspicious, with a spokesman saying that "The results of the post-mortem combined with the inquiries conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death indicate it is not suspicious".

Further tests will be carried out to establish the exact cause of Mr Shales death.
