Lukasz Bubak, of Krakow, Poland, spoke through an interpreter to deny robbery and possessing an a knife in a public place after an incident in Evercreech which saw a 14 year old girl left shaking and terrified.
The 14 year old girl, who was smoking with friends, was approached by 30 year old Bubak, who was at the time holding a knife, who demanded a cigarette from here.
Her friends ran off, and Bubak confronted her. "He had a knife in one hand and made a smoking gesture with the other" the girl told police.
Bubak, who told the court that he had come here in 2010 with an employment agency, then returned to a house and smoked the cigarette before going inside.
Bubak told police that "I did not threaten the girl with a knife. I asked politely for a cigarette and the fact I had a knife in my hand was just a coincidence". Of course, easy mistake to make, happens to all of us every day.
He was convicted at Taunton Crown Court on both charges of robbery and possessing a knife in a public place, and remanded into custody.
His lawyer presented the court with a document which seemingly refers to mental health issues and a conversation Bubak had with a doctor about these issues.
Just the kind of person we need living and working in Britain, eh?
