                                          Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

                                         Leymah Gbowe
                                         Tawakkul Karman

The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Friday to Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee and democratic activist Tawakkul Karman of Yemen for their work on women's rights, which the prize committee described as fundamental to the spread of peace around the world.

By citing Karman, the committee also appeared to be acknowledging the effects of the Arab Spring, which has challenged authoritarian regimes across the region.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee honored the three women "for their nonviolent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights to full participation in peace-building work."

"We cannot achieve democracy and lasting peace in the world unless women obtain the same opportunities as men to influence developments at all levels of society," the prize committee said.

Prize committee chairman Thorbjorn Jagland said he hoped the prize would bring more attention to rape and other violence against women as well as women's role in promoting democracy in Africa and the Arab and Muslim world.

Karman is a 32-year-old mother of three who heads the human rights group Women Journalists without Chains. She has been a leading figure in organizing protests against President Ali Abdullah Saleh that kicked off in late January as part of a wave of anti-authoritarian revolts that have convulsed the Arab world.

"I am very very happy about this prize," Karman told The Associated Press. "I give the prize to the youth of revolution in Yemen and the Yemeni people."

Citing the Arab Spring alone could have been problematic for the committee. The unrest toppled authoritarian regimes in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya. But Libya descended into civil war that led to NATO military intervention. Egypt and Tunisia are still in turmoil. Hardliners are holding onto power in Yemen and Syria and a Saudi-led force crushed the uprising in Bahrain, leaving an uncertain record for the Arab protest movement.

Jagland said it was difficult to find a leader of the Arab Spring revolts, especially among the many bloggers who played a role in energizing the protests, and noted that Kamran's work started before the Arab uprisings.

"Many years before the revolutions started she stood up against one of the most authoritarian and autocratic regimes in the world," he told reporters.

Johnson Sirleaf, 72, is a Harvard-trained economist who became Africa's first democratically elected female president in 2005.

Liberia was ravaged by civil wars for years until 2003 and is still struggling to maintain a fragile peace with the help of U.N. peacekeepers.

Sirleaf was seen as a reformer and peacemaker in Liberia when she took office. She is running for re-election this month and opponents in the presidential campaign have accused her of buying votes and using government funds to campaign. Her camp denies the charges.

The committee cited Johnson Sirleaf's efforts to secure peace in her country, promote economic and social development and strengthen the position of women.

Jagland said the committee didn't consider the upcoming election in Liberia when it made its decision.

"We cannot look to that domestic consideration," he said. "We have to look at Alfred Nobel's will, which says that the prize should go to the person that has done the most for peace in the world."

Gbowee, who organized a group of Christian and Muslim women to challenge Liberia's warlords, was honored for mobilizing women "across ethnic and religious dividing lines to bring an end to the long war in Liberia, and to ensure women's participation in elections."

In 2009 she won a Profile in Courage Award, an honor named for a 1957 Pulitzer Prize-winning book written by John F. Kennedy, for her work in emboldening women in Liberia.

Everybody had a special memory – a sweet one – of the first time ever in a special occasion in a whole life. Some time come flash in our mind when lay down on bed, alone, watching Television or heard a special, old songs. It is interesting to writing it down, may entertaining you and the readers as well.
All special memories set in chronological order formed the colorful milestones as my Life Journey

I wish to share mine, make me wondered and amused too that it had been happened in my Life. Some of these experiences had been written in somewhere in my Biography book, 2008 edition or in the Blog jingga-senja.blogspot.com separately. Now I want to specify each one in one special topic.

FIRST KISS

When I was in the last year of Junior Economic high school at Sibolga town, North Sumatra, I had a close friend,  in the same school in the lower class, a dark skin, shorter then me. When I returned home from high school holiday outside town in 1960, I visit her one early night at her home across the river of my home.

When the time to say  good bye, she saw me the way in the dark, till to the edge of the river. Suddenly, I was stunned when my lips touched by hers, just for a second. She was shorter, she had to hold me to reach my mouth. The initiative come from her, not me anyway.

I was shocked when met her again 28 years later in 1988, she was one of our guests when my family had a  big traditional banquet at my home across the river. She said :”Did you knew me?”, she said. I just smile.
It was happened in 1960 when I was 17 years of age.

O The Novel OBAMA 2012

The novel "O," which officially hits shelves next week, is landing on desks in medialand today. Some select journalists (I'm not among them) were asked to refrain from commenting on whether or not they're the author -- because "O" is officially written by Anonymous.

Publisher Simon & Schuster does not want any hints pointing to who the author of "O" might or might not be. The only thing that they do reveal is that Anonymous has in fact stood in the same room as President Obama. Which narrows it down to -- oh gee, that's gonna be a big number.

"O" is a novel of the 2012 election. Which, of course, hasn't happened yet. That is a major feature distinguishing it from "Primary Colors," the 1996 book about a presidential campaign written by Anonymous.
"Primary Colors" was a roman-a-clef about Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign, so it promised highlights like media scandals, a tense and ambitious wife, a drunken sibling, and ladies who need to be handled. It reflected one of the most lively campaigns in recollection. It also had something going for it -- Joe Klein, a longtime journalist whose writing came alive in the book.

Can "O" pull off the same excitement? Is a fictional account of a campaign that has not yet happened going to be as amusing as a fictional account of one people remember -- one that will, indeed, begin all too soon?
What's more, can fiction hope to compete with the real thing? Theodore H. White created the gold standard of nonfiction campaign chronicles with "The Making of the President, 1960" in which he looked at candidates, up close, from the campaign's beginning to end. His book about the 1960 campaign was so successful -- it won the Pulitzer Prize and was a bestseller -- that White went on to write "The Making of the President, 1964," "The Making of the President, 1968," "The Making of the President, 1972." These books prove that truth is stranger than fiction: Who would think a man running for president would cry during a press conference -- then, after denying that he had shed tears, quit the Democratic primary race over the incident? Edmund Muskie did -- but can you sell such a crazy story in a novel?

As for Anonymous, it took about six months before Klein admitted he was the one who'd written "Primary Colors." That was in 1996, when the Internet speed was counted in bauds -- now, how long will it take for Anonymous to be revealed?

Developing countries including Indonesia in 2010 got flooding of Foreign Capital inflow not to Direct Investment but buy SBI and SUN. SBI is Sertifikat Bank Indonesia and SUN is Surat Utang Negara (Goverment Bond). SBI issued by Central Bank, Bank Indonesia and SUN issued by the Goverment.

Total foreign funds invest in SBI reach  Rp.72,58 trilions or 32,25 % of total SBI value. Similar happened in SUN, reach Rp. 190,2 trilions or 30,12% of total SUN value. If foreign investor withdraw in the same time, we may imagine what would happend...econpmic crisis.

Both instruments are very secure, since back up by the Goverment that will never be bankcrupt with a relatively high rate of interest comparing to USA, Europe and Japan. In USA the rate almost drop down to ZERO. Europe face downturn in economic growth and run austerity program. That is why the funds flowing to the developing countries, including Asia.
                                                                                         Yuan bill

Some countries set a policy to anticipated the negative impact of the Capital inflow. Thailand taxed interest of Foreign who buy Goverment Bond. Latin America country took a similar plicy as well. China who set Yuan rate in steady rate but the inflation rise in Properties and commodities prices. Malaysia Rinngit appreciated 10 % in 2010.
High official of Central Bank and Goverment set a common policy as in a normal cicumtance using 3 old policies, everybody knew. In order to prevent the sudden Outflow below the policies in place:
1. Accumulate Foreidn exghance reserve
2. Set a minimum one month tenor of SBI
3. Switch SBI to Cerificate of Deposit

RecentlyCentral Bank felt confidence with a huge sun of reserve amount US$ 98,7 as a high increasing of industrial products export. The grafic value of export kept constant due to selected kinds of export commodities and selected destination countries as well. Up until October total export reach a very high US$.98,7 million, almost touch 100 million. In August 2010 itself reach US$ 13, 31 million, more than 38% higher than the sama month last yeaar.

Do you believe it.....A lot of technocrat in Central Bank, in Goverment office never think out of Boxes...If something bad happened, they will keep quite and hand off the responsibility. It was happened when economic crisis hit Asia and Indonesia as well.

Hopefully, the economic crisis 2007 never happend again and again as a cosequences of flooding Capital inflow and suddenly withdraw and out of the country.

Up until recently, the old building - built around 60 years ago -  still going strong and look fenomenal. I had been a student in 1962 and that time we proud to be a Gajah Mada  student.

It set a tough criteria to enrolled, the high school diploma average value minimum 7 (seven)  plus  passed the written test. Descendants of a whealthy or high officials no execption if the diploma under 7, they are not eligible to applied. Thanks God and thank my parents who could afford to pay my monthly allowances for 6 years.

I had one funny memory in this building. Early every month I will asked administrator if my  money transfered (by post office) is coming or not. If any plane roaring in the air, I expected they took my transfers allowances along with the plane  and the next day I would ask the same question again.

     Gajah mada building, Bulaksumur

My parents worked as an merchants of rubber, small factory of rubber, local bus transportation, rice trader and textile traders and shop, both worked independently until their senior age. We lived in a simple house, below.
We kept the house up until now as an original as rememberance of my parent as long as I lived. And my decendant know where their ancestor coming from

My parent house 1960

What I missed a lot when I studied in Yogjakarta was the sunset that I watch  sitting beside a wrekage ship in harbour compound. Sitting while uncapped peanuts sold by a man called "kacang goreang", means fried peanuts, not fried by oil but by hot sand.
Unconsious the memory built in under my mind and missed it as long as I lived and if I  missed it, I will turn my car or take a bike to go to Ancol beach, just to inhale the noise of waves to the shores

                                         Sibolga sunset

Thanks to my parents to allowed me leaved them lonely since I was the only boy with 5  sisters. They prefered me not going far away and not going to University. My dad said :"Your monthly income could be gain just in one week", he said to hold me stay. But my willingness to get a higher education answered :"Sorry, I have to go".
Then they reminded me :"You have to return home, if we couldn't send your monthly allowance", they said. But for 6 years in a row, I got my diploma and get a good job.

                                        Reach Stacker Monang brothers
Magnitude of Economic's crisis, economic down turn in Asia in 1997, affected all sectors of business; many bussiness man suicided, unemployment everywhere in industrial sectors, who depend on  imported  raw materials with a very expensive prices,  4 - 5 time higher then calculated in advance. The loan unpaid as scheduled and become Non performed loan in banking industries.

When the crisis erupted in medio 1997, foreign exchange rate devaluated 4 - 5 times, from Rp.2.500 in Januari 1997, jumped up to Rp.15.000 in US$ in July 1997. At that era, before the tsunami hitted Indonesia, the companies very proud, adverticed when signing a big offshore loan. After the crisis, they crying, shout out loud, since the income in Rupiah and the repayment in US$ in a very high exchange rates. The  top rates reached Rp. 15.000 in US$

My bussiness, in import handling equipments for import goods in Tanjungpriok port of Jakarta stopped at all, no more Containers to be handling. Before economic crisis hitted Indonesia in July 1997 the equipments working around the clock, loading, unloading the ships who landed in the ports.

                                   Notary, me, wife

Consequently my installment montly basis stopped. The loan nearly US.$ 1 million  to buty2 reach stacker - above foto - pay regularly on time before crisis come. The lender, PT.Sumitomo Exim Bank leasing can't pushed me to pay, since we had no income as before.

As time goes on while everybody waiting for the crisis is over, after a long negotiation, after took a deep consideration, we signed the agreement that the balance of the loan plus interest will be stated paid off and the 2 leased hardwares return to the lessors, Sumitomo.

My wife and me watching the 2 Reach Stackers moved away from our station to a new space belong to Sumitomo. The red huge Stackers moved slowly like an elephand, I can't hold my tears to shed remembered that all our struggles for 3 long years, sweating seem useless.

                              Vera Situmeang, Monang Situmeang

Remembered, when we got the loan, my fiends unbelieved said  :"You robbed the Leasing company", they said in unisom, a new set up company got a big value  of the loan, $ 1 million without any collaterals, disburshed very fast, just in one month after the application. All management team, myself, wife , my kids Vera and Monang (student) signed the contract. Even Monang have to called back home from Los Angeles.

Monang and myself using a formal jackets while Vera and my wife used the best clotches in signing the contract along with the Board of the Directors Sumitomo in Summitmas tower,  at Jalan Sudirman, South Jakarta.
                                           Reach Stacker @ Tanjungpriok port

This is a very sweet memory, that a goodwill, a good reputation as an high executive Banker is Bankable and the networks among Bank executives and bussinessman should maintenance properly to support our reputation in bussiness sectors.

In front of my office 2010

All participants seat neatly with the best tie and blue black jackets - Bankers uniform - attending the closing ceremony of long courses - more than 4 months- SESPIBANK VII/1992, the highest courses in the Banking industry in Indonesia, the factory of Bankers, runned by Central Bank or Bank Indonesia. The Central Bank Governor will awarded the certificates to participants (from State, private and local development Banks).

Before the opening start, I went to the rest room and by accident met a senior instructor, patted my shoulder and said :" You are the best participants and will step forward to accept a special certificates "h he said without any explanation in details. I don't believed in what he just said and don't understand what kind of certificate it was.

After a short speech, MC called my name stepped forward with another one participants to get the certificates handed by Mr.Syahrir Sabirin, Bank Indonesia Governor. He was my class mate in economic, Gajah Mada University, Yogjakarta 1968.
No one noticed since the beginning, from day one that every instructor or someone assigned to keep notes, scores and evaluation of every lectures, discussions, visits we had made. So the result of the courses represented the real quality of every participants. Few years later, I was the one assigned specicially as an evaluator of the SESPIBANK courses.

Still fresh in my mind that some of the participants approached me said :" Please don't  raise  a difficult  question",they said in unison. They worrisome, if they couln't responsed well and embarashing. But no one aware that the instructors will took a negative records or low points. In no special reasons, in every opportunities I was  the one who always raised the questions, either in Indonesia or in Manila as well.

                                My certificate
Nevertheless, I never though of honor of such certificates, but by that moment  I felt a little bit dissappoint. How come I became the 2nd rank. Supposedly I was the best, the champion among 25 Bankers. I said this because Mr.Sutopo, Bank Mandiri main branch manager, should be unqualified, from championship criteria point of view. He didn't joined the class to Manila and didn't get any points either in the Philippines, since his wife fall sicked and hospitalized.

                                 Participants @Manila
As I said, since this is not championship and we never knew of any competition in the class, I accepted it without complaining, as a 2nd rank. But my heart questioned still. I realized  it when the trianing was over, that I was the best one in every discussions in Manila  - in English  -  beside an istructor, a Bank BNI 1946 managing Director.

When the lunch time come, the Governor extended his hand to my managing Director, he pointed to me and said loudly :"He is my friend from Gajah Mada University" with smile. Then I saw his special mark,  his right hand had 6 (six)fingers, the tumb had a small finger.

After the course, some of the participants  got a promotion became a Board members in their Bank or in  a sister companies. Some of the participants graduated in this course got a promotion or posted in strategic positions in State own Bank, private or local development Bank in Indonesia.

By accident on the same day I had been scheduled as a service leader  (liturgos) at Kapuk Muara post , west Jakarta, but nobody knew is my birthday, expect Mrs Iis Afendy who chatted with me a day before, when she checked out my profile
Three of the list coming from abroad, my wife's niese, Mrs.Vhi Simanjuntak lived and work in Dubai and Evron Situmeang, my relatives, lived at Lomalinda city, South California and Fajar Hariwati Santoso, wife of an Italian,  lived in Italy, I guess, since her wishes noted in Italy's laguage and I answered with Italy as well, after Google few minutes - sorrry if I made any mistake..
  Evron Situmeang family (43)

Most of the friends, 15 friends, coming from my community in my church, Gereja Kristen Indonesia, central Jakarta remind me where I belong, the place I had been a members for 33 years, since 1987, including 7 years as an elder. a volunteer dedication time and talents.I knew all of them and they knew me well as well. I had a special memory every year, that my anniversary celebrated at the same time with my church, at this time is a 81th.
Nine of the list are belong to Situmeang family name that only 2 are my close relatives. The rest, 7 didn't met anywere before, but they send me a warm regards. Some of them asking my profile to know what their exact say to called me, is a brother, father, grandfather, son or grandson,  In Situmeang family, everybody know what exact number they are in the family tree. This tradition are very complicated since hundred years.

Interesting comments coming from a friend in Jakarta Church organization, Mr.Nugroho Imam Panuju where I was an Auditor for 4 years, said :"Keep your young soul and never stop serve Him"he said. His images  mean that for 4 years in a row he saw me always keep young in spirit in church service, in my senior age.

Sigit Darmawan (38)
Almost the same image coming from Sigit Darmawan, a younger generation who assigned as Study & Development Team in drafting master plan for our church, he said :"Wishing you are the light house in your enviroment" and he copy along a quote from Franz Kafka :" Youth is happy because it has the ability to see beauty. Anyone to keep the ability to see the beauty never grows old"

                                             Nana (17), Rian (2)
Among the friends, I had at least 2 who love write the poems regularly almost everyday in Face Book and we exchanged funny comments, support, console, advice each other. We made a collaboration in drafting a poem and also I wrote a short story about each one of them, even never met physically. We had made a close relationship in the net, once by a sad poem who had made a crying a lot and the silly picture just to comfort or make friend laugh out louder, LOL every saw the pic.

Salomo. Toby, Peggy, Ramos,Antonia
Fryday night my younger son, Pahala Situmeang call ed said :" Papi what time do you at home tomorrow", he said that he will come to our house with Shinta, wife and 2 sons. My eldest daughter Vera Situmeang and her husband Moeseley Simatupang come without notice along with 2 sons. All gather at home along with my second daughter, Peggy Situmeang and her beloved daughter Antonia, who lived with me.

They intend to take me to a restaurant in the evening. But I can't go because I had a meeting and choir rehearshal for Indonesia anniversry celebration at August 17 at 17.00.

Before I leaved the house, Vera and Pahala hand me an envelope. Thanks Inang, Amang. My son, Monang  Situmeang and his wife Sarah who lived at California send a warm wishes in FB as well.

In the last chapter of  Sulemain's proverbs, the sub title of Nobel Character of a Wife, he set with a very high standard over average of a woman. She should be categorized as a super woman. I noted some criterias such as : She is worth far more than rubies, work with eager hands. She gets up while it is dark, She provides foods for her family, She open her arm to the poor.
In the last verses Suleman concluded that woman charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but woman who fear God to be praised.

It was not easy to find such high standard criteria as Sulaeman - who had 1.000 wifes - . But what he really mean was not the beauty of a woman to be taken to account, but woman who fear God, respect, appreciate, please God. Everybody who fear God will always done the right things and avoid doing the bad thing in life.

In other version we accustom to hear that Fear God is a source of Knowledge and  Wisdom. These two rewards - Knowledge to know the good and bad and Wisdom - will be given to whom fear of God. At the end, the people who fear God will result in positive future life.

In the beginning, I confused to understand what is the meaning of the theme "Beautiful wife" in conjunction to Thanks giving services in Mr.Gunawan Situmorang, in their home at Bekasi, west Java, bordered East Jakarta at May 13, 2010. These young couple with 2 small children inaugurated his wife birthday, God's company when he was unemployed for 5 months and new house funding from pension fund of previous job.

The preacher Pdt.Guruh Jatmiko lead the sermon and our choir Sangkakala singing "Ucap syukur" fluently without rehearsal by Elly. They invited around 50 friends and families as well.
We are glad to see these new couple surrender their live, their future to God.

I wasn't realized then, previously, 3 days before this event,I had written a poem concerning the black beautiful of my own grandchild, Antonia Jones, referred to the same verses, Soleman's king wisdom at the last chapter 31, especially a sentence You are more beautiful then rubies as follows:

    BLACK BEAUTIFUL

As awesome as your name, Antonia

You are more beauty than rubies

As dark as you are as black as your curly hair

    You are unique created

    A woman who fears God

    A truly beauty inside

You extend your hand to the needy

You speak wisdom and no curse

    Yet faithfulness with patience

    Smile, joke with you around

Just as the dark of your beauty

    From the very beginning

    Love you as undonditional
