The immigration system is a mess. Yes, that's news apparently, it seems that ConDem may just have woken up to the fact that there are problems. Good to see those high salaries mean that they cotton on quickly, the rest of us have only known it for years.
They are going to....launch a consultation paper in the light of recent rulings under Section 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. You know, the rulings that say we cannot deport foreign criminals, which guarantee that most people who manage to make it here to begin with will get to say, and generally over-ride British law altogether.
Sharp people these ConDem coalitionists, who'd have thought they'd wake up so quickly?
There are problems it seems. All these high profile rulings have opened peoples eyes a little. People in Britain have woken up to the fact that there really is something a little wrong with a system which guarantees rapists, murderers, terrorists, and every criminal and sponger the world over has a right to remain in Britain.
The British public just aren't buying those sob stories any more. "Oh, I'm sorry I raped a few people, committed some burglaries, and then tried to kill someone, but please don't send me back, I have a girlfriend in the UK, and a pet cat!" just won't cut it anymore. It shouldn't have to begin with, but that's by the by, we've little choice but to deal with the mess that has been created by official incompetence and overseas interference.
But, don't expect ConDem to do a lot. They'll shuffle some papers, the consultation will tell us all exactly what we already knew, and we'll still be in the same old situation. They're going to talk tough, and then retire to the Commons bar for a nice glass of chardonet and pondering of such weighty matters as to how best fill out their expenses claims.
Let's help the poor darlings out for once, they must be stuck for ideas if they need a consultation to tell them the obvious. Many might go further than these few ideas, but they'll do for a starter and go some way towards fixing things.
Withdraw Britain from any treaty or international law which interferes with our national right to control our own borders. We as a nation should decide who comes here, and who can remain here, that is our right as a country and nobodies business but our own.
Immediately deport any immigrant or asylum seeker convicted of a criminal offence. Sorry, if you were that desperate for sanctuary and a "right to a family life" then you would have been grateful to be getting one here and have abided by our laws. Rights entail responsibilities, and you broke your responsibility to our nation by breaking our laws.
Strictly enforce 'first safe country' policy to prevent people travelling through countless safe nations to reach the benefits Mecca that is the United Kingdom.
Simplify the legal process. At most, one appeal against deportation, to be heard by a British court and based upon British law. As a nation we will decide who should be here and who should not be. The decision of any appeal is final. Put an end to the rights bonanza which ensures lawyers get rich from the asylum and human rights game.
Just a few thoughts to help Theresa May and her consultation along. You know it makes sense, but don't hold your breath. We'll get the usual spiel about doing something, some tough rhetoric, and things will stay the same.
So long as we have ConDem, or Labour, nothing changes, Britain is doomed to be stuck in the same old mess and just paper over the cracks when a few headlines prompt the need to be seen to be doing something.
