Todays Telegraph features an interesting look at the creeping approach of Sharia Law in areas of the UK, the law of an alien religion which is already operating unofficially in our country.

Former Newham councillor Alan Craig, who has lived in Newham for 30 years, says that "I can no longer walk to my local shops and find anywhere to buy conventional, non-halal meat. Posters at bus stops of swimwear models are spray-painted over with a burka. The pavements are crowded with women wearing not just the face-veil, but black gloves to hide their hands"

He goes on to tell of a local school which, during Ramadan last year, assured Muslim parents that children would be refused food and drink to ensure that they observed a fast at Ramadan.

"I was stunned. This is where we’ve got ourselves to. Secular authorities policing Ramadan for Muslim parents" said Alan Craig.

According to the Islamic Sharia Council website "Though the Council is not yet legally recognised by the authorities in the UK, the fact that it is already established, and is gradually gaining ground among the Muslim community....are all preparatory steps towards the final goal of gaining the confidence of the host community in the soundness of the Islamic legal system"

Scary stuff, even if the Telegraph do try to spin a slightly positive angle with a Muslim woman managing to end up serving on a male dominated Sharia council, and a couple of non-Muslims winning cases at Muslim arbitration tribunals.
