Mohammed Sajid Khan, 32, and his wife Shasta Khan, 37, have been remanded in custody after appearing at the Old Bailey charged with terrorist offences.
The couple, living in Oldham, face several charges under anti terror legislation, including that they researched the construction of improvised explosive devices, and purchased items which could be used create them.
Both appeared via videolink from separate prisons, and an application for bail made by Shasta Khan was rejected. They face trial in Manchester at a later date.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between August of 2010 and July of 2011, and they also include charges of possessing information likely to be of use to those committing or preparing acts of terrorism.
The charges came as the result of an investigation carried out by the North West Counter Terrorism Unit.
