Albanian waiter Olsi Berisha, 30, of Easton, has been handed a 12 month community order and a ten week curfew after being found guilty of repeatedly punching his former girlfriend after a row in which he accused her of flirting with other men in a nightclub.

The assault, which took place in Jamaica Street, St Pauls, saw Berisha punch the woman in the face and body, leaving her with a cut lip and bruising.

Members of the public who called 999 reported seeing the victim kicking and screaming in the back of a car as Berisha rained blows on her.

Berishas former girlfriend was left so traumatised by the attack that she would sleep with a mobile phone in case Berisha tracked her down.

His defence claimed that he was drunk at the time of the attack, and had since enrolled on a course at Filton College.

Berisha had entered a plea of not guilty to assault, but was given tne community order and curfew, with 100 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay costs plus compensation totalling £200 at Bristol Magistrates Court.
