Clegg the Arsonist?

A great little bit of audio here - in which the BBC's Alan Clifford asks Deputy PM Nick Clegg about his conviction for arson.

The interview, on BBC Radio Nottingham which aired on 11 August, features a stumbling and stuttering Clegg well and truly put on the spot.

Interviewer Clifford brings up Cleggs arson conviction for burning two greenhouses down when he was 16, and a stammering Clegg denies being convicted - although doesn't actually deny that an event of some kind took place.

Indeed, it seems some event most definitely took place, Clegg himself has referred to a 'drunken prank' in which rare cacti were burned, and admitted to being "drunk and losing it".

Well worth a listen.

A great line, "...of course I don’t have empathy with people who destroy their own communities" - isn't that what successive generations of politicians have been doing to Britain for decades Cleggy?

Come on Nick, spill the beans - is arson arson, or is it less of a big deal when it's a posh public schoolboy burning things for a 'prank'?

Britain deserves to know what you think Nick, and the full circumstances surrounding these allegations of arson.

As Deputy Prime Minister it would be improper for you to do anything other than make sure that the British people are made fully aware of this whole, sorry incident.
