Police have swooped on a farm in Devon thought to be employing illegal workers and have made 8 arrests.

The early morning raid, carried out with the UK Border Agency, targeted Frank Clarke and Sons, Homeleigh Farm near Cullompton after intelligence indicated that illegal workers were being employed there.

Authorities carried out immigration status checks on a number of people found to be living in caravans at the farm, and discovered 8 people who were in the UK illegally.

These people were arrested and taken to several local police stations for questioning, and are now in immigration detention as measures are taken to remove them from the UK.

Seven of the men detained are Indian, and one is Brazilian.

"If people want to live or work in the UK, there are ways they can come here legitimately. But if they break the law we will find them and look to remove them from the country" said Jane Farleigh of UKBA.

8 down and how many more hundreds of thousands more to go?

There is a direct link between foreign workers, both legal and illegal, and the horrifying scale of unemployment within the UK.

Until we get our borders in order, and ensure that those employing illegal workers receive more than a mere slap on the wrist, the dole queues will continue to grow and countless jobs will be denied to the British worker.
